October is Non-GMO Month

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

October is Non-GMO Month and we want to teach you all about it! I’m sure you’ve seen non-GMO labels on the shelves over the past few years, but how many of you know what GMOs are? Are GMO’s safe to eat? What are the benefits of choosing Non-GMO products?

GMO stands for genetically modified organisms. Essentially this means any living organisms whose genetic material has been altered by means of genetic engineering. Corporations that use genetically modified foods rely on pesticides to “protect” our food and increase control over the growing system. There may be claims saying that GMOs are safe to eat, however they can be detrimental to our health, farmers, and the environment. Our body is designed to process natural foods, so GMO toxins, pesticide residues, herbicides, heavy metals that we consume in our daily food will stack up in our body and cause long term health problems. According to Food & Water Watch, GMOs also carry risks to farmers and people living near the fields that are sprayed heavily with the herbicide, which the World Health Organization recently said is a probable human carcinogen. GMO’s can lead to serious long-term health risks, as well as the many harmful side effects aimed at our environment.

Nearly 50 developed nations around the world have strictly banned production and sale of GMOs including Japan, Australia, and all of the countries in the European Union. However, the US has not yet banned GMOs, and does not have mandatory GMO labeling. Seventy-two percent of US GMO crops are engineered to tolerate a certain type of herbicide. According to Winter Ridge Foods, close to 75% of our conventional packaged foods now contain GMOs. Thus, the NON-GMO Project was founded with the belief that people should have the right to know what’s in their food. Their mission is to protect customer choice and advocate for NON-GMO products.

Whether or not there is a consensus on GMO safety, as of yet, we as a brand believe in the consumption of natural and whole foods. Our entire product line is free of soy, gluten, dairy, GMO’s, and animal products or bi-products. We value health for the masses above all. We are massive proponents of a transparent and contaminant free food chain. We highly encourage you to look for the non-GMO project labels the next time you go grocery shopping. Be a part of the movement for our right to know what is in our food.

Tick-tock goes the summer clock. It’s here. Summer. Roughly 75 days full of endless possibilities.

Although most of us are working or shuffling kids to camps and activities, remember that summer, in all its glory, only comes around once a year. So live adventurously, or as we like to say- Grab Life by the Coconuts.

Make a summer bucket list: go camping, take a road trip, spend a week(end) at the beach, go tubing on the river, cool down with a margarita, visit an outdoor pool or swimming hole, play board games on a rainy day, go paddle boarding/kayaking, visit a water/amusement park, go surfing, try a new restaurant, make new friends, or better yet try a new flavor of NadaMoo!

Enjoy a scoop of Mmm…Maple Pecan after an impromptu Saturday hike with friends or taste the refreshing Sweet Cherry Lime while playing horseshoes by the water. For those of you who want to escape the heat, indulge in Cookies & Creme over a fierce game of poker.

Whatever grabs you this summer, do it with all you got. Summer is about fun and adventure… plain and simple. For some of us, it’s about re-living carefree childhood memories and for those of us that need reminding…it’s just about living! NadaMoo is here to remind you, so live summer like it’s meant to be. Remember…Grab Life by the Coconuts!

Dairy-Free Choco-Loco Taco

By | Dessert Recipes | No Comments

We made Taco Tuesday a whole lot sweeter with our Choco-Loco Taco. Yes, we made a dairy-free dessert taco and your mouth should be watering. Luckily, you can make these easily at home. Here’s how:

Choco-Loco Taco

Ingredients:

4 gluten-free tortillas

1 pint NadaMoo

1 cup chocolate chips

Cinnamon

Topping of choice

Coconut Oil

Directions:

Wrap tortillas in a slightly damp cloth or paper towel and microwave for 30 seconds to steam tortillas. Brush tortillas with coconut oil and sprinkle cinnamon. Drape each tortilla over two bars in oven rack and bake at 375 degrees until crispy which should be 7-10 minutes (example can be found here). Use tongs to remove from oven carefully. Place on baking sheet and put in freezer for 30 minutes. Remove pint of ice cream and allow to soften for 5 minutes. Remove tortillas from freezer and stuff with your choice of NadaMoo! Place in freezer for 15 minutes. Melt chocolate over stove or in microwave. Set out toppings in shallow dishes for quick dipping. Remove tacos from freezer one at a time. Dip taco in melted chocolate and topping of choice and quickly place in freezer. Repeat with the remaining tacos. Allow tacos to freeze for 15 minutes and then enjoy!

Cookies and Cream Nada-Milkshake

By | Dessert Recipes, Health Moos | No Comments

Our cookies and cream milkshake brings all the cows to the yard. And they’re like, that’s better than ours.

Aside from the early 2000s hit, a cookies and cream milkshake brings to mind images of decadent cookie crumbles perfectly swirled inside scrumptiously sweet cream, perhaps topped with whipped cream and a cherry. It also brings to mind astronomical calorie counts approaching the 1000 range.

Well, how about we make a Cookies & Crème milkshake with less than 300 calories? Oh, and let’s make it vegan, dairy-free and gluten-free too.

NadaMoo’s 11th flavor, Cookies & Crème, is the brainchild of two local businesses that share a commitment to creating health-conscious desserts that never disappoint in flavor. This vegan take on a classic ice cream flavor combines NadaMoo’s sweet crème base with cookie crumbles from Better Bites Bakery in Austin.

To make the shake, blend 1 cup of Cookies & Crème NadaMoo and 1 cup of non-dairy milk until creamy. Top with vegan cookie crumbles, dairy-free whipped cream, cherries, sprinkles or whatever else your little heart desires, and enjoy!

This simple shake not only contains significantly less fat and calories than its traditional version, but also features the benefits of plant-based fats that we discussed in our Chocolate Stuffed Raspberries blog. One could argue that we have concocted the crème de la crème of milkshakes. Give it a try and make sure to share your creation using #nadamoo, that is, if it lasts long enough for a photo.

NadaMoo Coffee Creamer Cubes

think outside the bowl

Waking up to the horror that is running out of your usual coffee fixins’ is a tragic occurrence that, quite frankly, can ruin the rest of your day.

While that might be a bit on the dramatic side, coffee lovers can understand the aggravation and disappointment of a lacking morning brew.  As we continue our #ThinkOutsideTheBowl challenge, we’ve created a simple addition to your morning coffee with our NadaMoo coffee creamer cubes.

To make your own coffee creamer cubes, throw a cup of your favorite NadaMoo flavor and a cup of unsweetened coconut milk in the blender. Pour the blend into ice cube trays (silicone works best) and freeze overnight. The next morning pop a cube or two into you coffee and you’re good to go.

The frozen cubes will instantly cool down your scorching brew and save you from those burnt tongues that last all day long. We recommend using Java Crunch, Vanilla Cha-Cha-Chai, Vanilla…Ahhh, Creamy Coconut or Gotta Do Chocolate NadaMoo, depending on your preferred coffee flavor. These cubes not only save you invaluable time in the morning, but also cut out dairy and the questionable ingredients found in artificial sweeteners and traditional coffee creamer.

So are you a Mocha Swirl & Java Crunch kind of girl? Maybe a Breakfast Blend & Vanilla Cha-Cha-Chai kind of guy? Get creative and share your creations using #ThinkOutsideTheBowl. Trust us, your mornings will never be the same.

Chocolate Raspberry Recipe

As mentioned last week, for the month of April the NadaMoo team is taking a break from bowls as we #ThinkOutsideTheBowl (and substantially reduce office dish duty).

Gotta Do Chocolate Stuffed Raspberries

For many, chocolate is not only a favorite food, but a way of life. These chocoholics find any excuse to add their rich indulgence to nearly any type of dish. Some might argue that stuffing a raspberry with chocolate ice cream defeats the purpose of snacking on the antioxidant-packed super food. However, taking advantage of the health benefits of NadaMoo, we have created a chocolate raspberry recipe that is the best of both worlds.

Made with coconut milk, NadaMoo contains plant-based saturated fats, which differ biochemically from the animal-based fats found in traditional dairy ice creams. According to cookbook author Cathe Olson, coconut milk is made up of medium-chain fatty acids, which are converted to energy rather than stored as body fat. Medium-chain fatty acids have also been proven to speed up metabolism, which burns calories and promotes weight loss. Coconut milk is also rich in lauric acid. Also found in breast milk, lauric acid is known to promote a healthy immune system and facilitate brain function. These research claims are also supported by studies of island populations around the world that use the coconut in everything from cooking to disease prevention.

For this week’s quick chocolate raspberry recipe, pack raspberry pits with thawed Gotta Do Chocolate and then freeze. That’s it. It’s hard to decide what which reward is better. The numerous benefits of raspberries + those of coconut milk or the sweet, fruity flavor + the rich and creamy chocolate. A handful of these heavenly bites make the perfect snack between meals or even a scrumptious dessert. You could even place a few atop of a cake for a lovely design or on top of more scoops of NadaMoo (as Audrey Hepburn once said “NadaMoo is always a good idea”…or something like that). Try it out and don’t be afraid to get creative with your flavor combos! Make sure to share your creations using #ThinkOutsideTheBowl

Thinking Outside the Bowl with NadaMoo!

By | Dessert Recipes, Health Moos, How Do You NadaMoo!, Uncategorized | No Comments

Thinking Outside the Bowl Banner

Here at NadaMoo, we always love to see innovative and fun uses of our dairy-free ice cream, from smoothies to cakes to the more creative. We’ve decided to dedicate a whole month to “thinking outside the bowl.” This is the idea of enjoying the deliciousness of NadaMoo outside of your go-to ceramic bowl, and this creative thinking isn’t limited only to food. Look out for crafty pint endeavors and other fun surprises, in addition to recipes, embodying our motto of thinking outside the bowl.

Think Inside the Apple: Apple Bowls

Thinking Outside the Bowl with Ice Cream Stuffed Apples

Because it’s our very first thinking outside the bowl recipe, we’re starting off with baby steps. We’re throwing out the regular ol’ bowl and replacing it with a healthy alternative. Apple bowls are quick and easy to make, and would make the perfect picnic treat on a warm sunny day. Plus, edible bowls equal no dishes. Enough said.

Start by slicing off the top of a medium-sized red apple, including the stem. Using a spoon or scooper, carve out the middle of the apple and make sure to remove all the seeds. Pro tip: a melon baller works the best for removing the middle of the apple. Finally add scoops of Mmm…Maple Pecan NadaMoo to your apple bowl and top with crushed pecans and maple syrup. Easy and delicious right?

This recipe can also be altered to include to your favorite flavor of NadaMoo Coconut Milk Ice Cream and toppings. If you’re feeling extra creative, experiment with other fruits and flavors:

  • Green apples + Sweet Cherry Lime
  • Pears + Vanilla…Ahhh
  • A pineapple (watch the spikes) + Creamy Coconut
  • A small watermelon (for the extra hungry) + Vanilla…Ahhh

What combo just popped into your head? Mmm… sounds delicious. Make sure to share your creations using #thinkoutsidethebowl and tag @NadaMoo. Thanks for stoppin’ by and check back throughout April for more ways of thinking outside the bowl.
